InFocus Turns Up the Volume on Youth Empowerment w/The MRCC

InFocus turns up the volume on empowering youth with The Music Resource Center - Cincinnati staff and a teen member in an interview that will air throughout the month of December.

The Music Resource Center—Cincinnati (MRCC) is a multifaceted teen program that uses recording and performing arts, as well as life skills mentoring to create a sense of empowerment and accomplishment in the urban community.

MRCC teaches adolescents to get along and work together with individuals from diverse backgrounds, to create dynamic products that reflect uniqueness and individuality, to pursue and master new skills, to conduct themselves according to a reasonable code of conduct, and to share their accomplishments in order to enrich the community as a whole.

InFocus host Bill Bell speaks with MRCC Executive Director Karen D'Agostino and Program Director Josh Elstro about the many offerings and the organization's unique programmatic formula. Dance Instructor Aprina Johnson and long-term teen member Eugene provide testimonials and insight on how MRCC is a real solution and not just another youth program.

CHRC's Community Outreach Advocates active in our communities

CHRC’s Community Outreach Advocates are active in the community & in locked facilities spreading the message that the violence must stop and are providing resources for assistance.

Every week, COA Tony Hill conducts groups at the Hamilton County Youth Detention Center. Topics encompass decision making, values, friends and not allowing the past to dictate the future. “Life is and has to be more than surviving (Tony Hill, 2013).”

On October 9th, Sonja Black, Tony Hill and Ali Rashid Abdullah attended the “Reentry Fair” at the London Correctional Facility. There were 200 inmates in attendance at this event where the staff members had the opportunity to disseminate information about the assistance they provide and engaged the inmates in conversation regarding the need to stop the violence and make positive life changes. In addition, they networked with other organizations and programs in attendance throughout the State.

On October 16th, Aaron Pullins and Steve Sherman gave a presentation at Court Clinic to 30 attendees.  Topics included education, empowerment and learning how to resolve conflicts peacefully. They distributed information regarding the assistance they provide, resources necessary to make changes in thinking, behavior, and skills required to desist from violence & continued to spread the message that the violence must stop.

On October 28th, the Community Outreach Advocates will be attending the “Warren Correctional Facility Resource Fair.” Like the London Facility the team will engage with the inmates and distribute information on the assistance they provide, resources and they will continue to deliver the message that the violence must stop.

CHRC'S Community Outreach Advocates (COA) continuing to give back to the community

Giving Back: After the work day is done, many of the Community Outreach Advocates, are still finding ways to give back to the community.

On October 4th, Community Outreach Advocate Dorron Hunter, took 29 intercity Youth to Morehead State University's Homecoming. This yearly trip provides youth with an opportunity to engage with a positive male role model and experience college life.

On October 11th, Community Outreach Advocate, Pastor “Pete” Mingo, attended a conference on domestic violence at the Christ Temple Full Gospel Baptist Church in Evanston. This conference was organized and put on by women from approximately a dozen churches in the greater Cincinnati area. The conference theme was a “Season of Healing”. The conference was well attended (approximately 200 attendees from varying socioeconomic, racial, ethnic, religious backgrounds, etc.). Many survivors of DV gave testimonies concerning the domestic violence they suffered, shared messages of hope, healing and restoration.

On October 18th, Community Outreach Advocate, Aaron Pullins was invited to be the Master of Ceremony at the Madisonville “Song Fest.” This was a faith base event where churches from the Hispanic/Latino community, Korean, Catholic and Baptist Church participated.

Keep up the great work!
