50th ANNIVERSARY HISTORIC "MARCH ON WASHINGTON!"

On August 28, 2013 citizens from across this country will converge upon our nation’s capital to commemorate and celebrate the 50th anniversary of the historic March On Washington. This transcendent moment when Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his “I Have a Dream” speech challenged us all to dream a bigger dream for our nation and our lives. As we approach this day, at the Cincinnati Human Relations Commission we still marvel at all of the profound changes that the civil rights movement helped bring to our nation & we honor the memory of those of every race, ethnicity, gender and religion who fought for civil rights. We also renew our commitment to live up to the dream that Dr. King articulated that day and remain steadfast in our efforts to help our community to overcome prejudice and discrimination; and build mutual respect and understanding. During the most critical of times, CHRC has always been there turning the community’s needs into action and connecting cultures and communities & our work continues to address modern day human and civil rights.

NOTE OF "THANKS" FROM CHRC'S EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR:

  • Thanks again to the staff and Board of the Cincinnati's Human Relations Commission (CHRC) for hosting the 2013 NAHRW Midwestern Regional Conference. The National Underground Railroad Freedom Center in Cincinnati was an excellent location and beautiful event center for the conference. The sessions were extremely valuable and the presenters were well versed in their subject matter. But what was most important was the camaraderie and networking during the conference among professionals and others with an interest in the field.

Individuals across multiple states were educated in the areas of modern day human and civil rights with specific emphasis upon equal employment, fair housing, criminal justice, youth engagement, police and community relations, disability rights, racial reconciliation, cultural awareness, human trafficking, education, community organizing, diversity and inclusion.

Again, my compliments and sincere thanks to the CHRC staff, Board and the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center for everyone’s hard work in hosting and putting this excellent event together.

Recently, the D'Souza family appeared in a story on Fox 19. The two sons, Bradley and Rohan, were participants in the 2013 Spring Night-at-the-Mic and were two of the CHRC Youth Achievement Awards honorees. Together, they have completed over 3,000 hours of community service. Their parents, Harold and Dancy D'Souza, stay in frequent communication with Jaime Bryant, Youth Services Coordinator, so they can be made aware of CHRC's youth opportunities.
