CHRC THANKS Christ Church Cathedral for their Generous Contribution!

The Cincinnati Human Relations Commission would like to thank Christ Church Cathedral for their generous contribution to the agency’s Legacy Project that is documenting and preserving the profound history of CHRC.

One of the factors that determine the quality of life in a city is the quality of intergroup relations. In 1943 Cincinnati established the Mayor's Friendly Relations (MFRC) to begin to address intergroup tensions that had fractured civic life for more than a century. In 1965, MFRC was reorganized as the Cincinnati Human Relations Commission (CHRC).

Over the decades CHRC has become one of the premiere human rights organizations in the United States. It has played a key role in addressing civil disorder, police community relations, minority hiring, and school desegregation – not always in the lead role, but always there as a catalyst. When Appalachian migrants flooded inner city neighborhoods, living often in blighted conditions, CHRC helped them establish an advocacy organization. Similarly, CHRC served to help other groups such as people with disabilities to gain recognition for their grievances.

And with donations like these, the history of CHRC will not be lost. CHRC in partnership with Michael Maloney and his team are completing our archives, developing a computerized finding aid including all collections (UC, HUC, the Cincinnati Museum Library, and Tulane University) and writing and publishing a history of CHRC/MFRC from 1943-2013.

Thank you again Christ Church Cathedral!
