Anti-Gun Violence Week at Aiken High School

Cincinnati, OH- The Cincinnati Human Relations Commission (CHRC) & Aiken High School are partnering on an Anti-Gun Violence Week, which has been moved to February 11-February 14, 2014, due to inclement weather. This idea was initiated by a former Youth 2 Work Consortium employee of CHRC. She proposed a rally, and a week came of it. Ms. Jaime Bryant,CHRC Youth Services Coordinator, committed to assisting with the planning and coordinatingfor this week. The school counselor, Ms. Sandi Horine, agreed to be the CPS staff to assist withthis endeavor. It is time to make a change with our youth, and the time is now!
We hope you can join us as we unite with a Cincinnati Public School, Aiken High School, to
increase the peace inside and outside of the classroom. Below is a schedule of events:

• February 11, 2014 from 10:00 am-1:00 pm- Gang Awareness & Prevention Day
• Street Outreach Workers & Youth Services Coordinator
• Topic “Gang Awareness and Prevention”
• The sessions are as follows:
• 7th & 8th grade boys in the cafe: 10:00 am-11:20 am
• 7th & 8th grade girls in the gym: 10:00 am-11:20 am
• 9th-12th grade boys in the cafe: 12:45 pm-2:00 pm
• 9th-12th grade girl in the gym: 12:45 pm-2:00 pm
• February 12, 2014 from 11:00 am-1:00 pm- Coping with Death by Gun Violence
• Street Outreach Workers & Youth Services Coordinator
• Topic “Strategies for coping with death by gun violence”
• The sessions are as follows:
• 7th & 8th grade boys & girls- 11:20 am-11:55 am (during lunch)
• 9th-12th grade boys & girls- 12:05 pm- 12:45 pm (during lunch)
• February 13, 2014 from 2:00 - 4:00 pm- Night-at-the-Mic Rally
• Street Outreach Workers & Youth Services Coordinator
• Topic “The mothers of murdered children speak
• February 14, 2014 from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm- Action Plan Day
• Street Outreach Workers & Youth Services Coordinator
• Topic “The importance of commitment and sticking to your word”.
• Students will also take a pledge.
